Re: Gov. Perry: Don't prosecute Marines

Gerry: I am thinking back to the days
prior to the E-8/E9 era and
         more toward the rifle company
level and in some cases, bring
         the BnSgtMajor into play. Most
effective in those days were your
E-7 fillng the billet of 1stSgt and
your E-6 filling the billet of CoGunny
         & a very Senior E-7 filling the
         Billet of BnSgtMajor.

 Don,

There are many of us who would defer to the Tops and the Master Gunnys who had initial control of their Marines. There are too many times when 1st Sgts and Sgts Major are out of the loop and have no clue as to what occurred.

On the other hand, if a Top or a Master Gunny were not involved, I will agree with your assessment.

                      have chewed their asses out,
for a bad move, on their part,
                      given them, unoffiial, EPD
                      and then everybody would get
on with their every day life.

Years ago, (40, 50 or 60), we would have
"burped and continued to march". Of course,
way back when, we did not have all this
political correctness BS and Senior Gov't &
Militay Officers had more important matters
that needed their attention. The "old Corps"
rule of thumb was "Let the 1stSgt or SgtMajor
handle this petty bull s---." That system worked
fine. Frankly, I believe the entire system went
astray, when they got rid of "Rocks & Shoals"
and the UCMJ was put in place

     Don:

Don't want to get in to presidential politics, but in this case Gov. Perry makes some sense. I have wondered why it just can't be handled by an NJP and kept confidential.
