Re: Update on the Trial

Marcy: I would hope LtCol Puckett &
          Major Faraj, would not agree
to a discharge, other than as
a MINIMUM of a, "General Discharge
          "UNDER HONORABLE CONDITIONS"
          for this fine Marine.

I am very leary of these acitive duty
          & retired JAG's playing mumble-peg
with these Marine's lives. I am very
concerned, now, with the impact of
this current case, as to the Legal Review
          of Sgt Hutchins case.

Best regards & Semper fi,

 Subject: Update on the Trial

Sorry for the delayed response. Today, SSgt Wuterich pled guilty to one specification of negligent dereliction of duty. I've placed a quote from Neal on the website (copied below). The sentencing case is tomorrow starting at 0830 Pacific time with judge alone. The government offered a plea deal last week and it was approved by the Convening Authority. Neal will be giving a news conference on SSgt Wuterich's behalf at the end of the sentencing case, which should be tomorrow afternoon. I'll try and give you a heads up on it, but I may not have connectivity to do so.

Plea Ends Haditha War Crimes Trial

Press Release, Aexandria VA January 23, 2012/12:45PM:
“No one denies that the consequences of November 19, 2005 were tragic, least of all SSgt Frank Wuterich. But the fact of the matter is that he has now been totally exonerated of the homicide charges brought against him by the government and the media. For six years, he’s had his name dragged through the mud. Today, we hope, is the beginning of his redemption. He has always publicly taken responsibility for the lawful actions of his squad that day, as portrayed in his interview with CBS 60 Minutes. Today’s agreement is completely consistent with everything he has always said. Which is that the decisions he made that day led to an outcome that was tragic and regrettable and he takes responsibility for them, but they were not criminal.”
