Question of the Week

Does Your Firm Offer Sabbaticals? Have You Ever Taken One or Thought About Doing So?
http://www.abajournal.com/weekly/article/does_your_firm_offer_sabbaticals_ever_taken_one_or_thought_about_it?utm_source=maestro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=default_email

In July, we noted that law firms in Singapore, which pay their associates approximately $50,000 in U.S. dollars, are offering those associates, among other things, one-month paid sabbaticals after four years of work.

And earlier this year, Fortune put law firms Alston & Bird, Baker Donelson and Perkins Coie on its list of the 100 best places to work, noting that these firms offered paid sabbaticals.

So this week, we'd like to ask: Does your firm offer sabbaticals? Have you ever taken one, or would you if you had the chance? Why or why not? And regardless of whether it's an option for you, what would you do with a paid month off?

Answer in the comments.

Read the answers to last week's question: How Much Time Do You Spend on Grooming Before Your Workday?

Featured answer:

Posted by Deanna: "White female here. For me, it depends on what I'm doing that day. If I have to go to court or a deposition, or if I'm meeting a new client or networking with an important new contact, I'll spend extra time making sure my hair and makeup look nice and putting on nice jewelry, so at least 45 minutes those days. If I'm just coming in, sitting at my desk, and writing a brief or making some phone calls, I'll pull my hair in a ponytail, put on some mascara, brush my teeth and call it a day. 20ish minutes. CLE ... roll out of bed and put pants on."
