Ardalan, Congratulations and we would love to attend! Thanks so much for thinking of us. Be sure and let us know as soon as you know the particulars. Will let you know if we have any projects on which we may need assistance. I'm copying Haytham on this email in case he may have some research/writing work for you. Again, congratulations. I was not promoted from the alternate list to the active duty list. I was offered a reserve commission which I accepted while I await the results of the most recent board. I have completed all the paperwork and found a unit to accept me. I will take my medical exams in 2 weeks and then await the SECDEF to sign the appointment scroll. The Judge Advocate Recruiting Office has given me an estimated commissioning date of late summer. Assuming everything works out, I would like you and Ms. Atwood to come to my commissioning. From there my contract with the BRAC project ends in September and my training for the Army would begin in late October. On another note, I recently discovered the Military Law Update CLE that you will be participating in on 20 May in Quantico. I wrote Ms. Shaffner at the VA state bar and asked her to allow me to attend the seminar, despite being admitted in California. Virginia is one of the few states that California actually accepts CLE credit from. I hope she allows me to attend. I was also wondering if you knew of any good volunteer opportunities for me to participate in. I would like to keep my research skills and knowledge sharp, as I fear they are diminishing. I looked into representing veterans before the Court of Appeals for the Veterans Administration but wasn't able to make any headway. I would appreciate any insight you could offer. Thank you again for everything and hopefully I will be able to attend the CLE and hear you and Mr. Faraj speak. Very respectfully, Ardalan Azad, Esq.
