Despicable. Let's stop the assault on women's health.

Because Freedom Can't Protect Itself
Dear Haytham,

Tell your senators to say NO to any legislation that threatens comprehensive reproductive and family planning services.

Earlier this afternoon, the House of Representatives adopted an extreme amendment that would eliminate all federal funding to Planned Parenthood Federation of America. This would immediately jeopardize the health of millions of women, men and teens who rely on Planned Parenthood and are otherwise unable to afford basic healthcare services.

Stop this legislation from moving forward in the Senate. Take action NOW.

The Pence amendment is an attempt to prevent Planned Parenthood from receiving any federal funding because it performs abortions. Further, it raises serious constitutional questions because it penalizes an organization for using its own funds to provide constitutionally protected access to abortion.

But let's be clear — the consequences of this will be far more personal. Planned Parenthood is an integral piece of our health care delivery system.

In some states, they are the only provider serving low-income women. With federal funds, Planned Parenthood provides women with a range of services that include detecting breast and cervical cancers, preventing unintended pregnancies, treating and preventing sexually transmitted infections, testing for high blood pressure, and counseling about their options including adoption and pregnancy terminations.

These attempts to defund Planned Parenthood are unconscionable, unwarranted and deeply harmful.

Tell your senators to say NO to any legislation that threatens comprehensive reproductive and family planning services.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,

Vania Leveille
Senior Legislative Counsel, ACLU

P.S. This is the beginning of the process for funding federal government programs this year in the Senate. With far-reaching consequences like the Planned Parenthood ban and many other damaging provisions, you'll be hearing from us next week about how you can help improve this funding bill in the Senate.
