Career Center
The State Bar of Michigan has launched a new online career center to connect employers in the legal profession to eligible and qualified candidates looking for job opportunities. The Bar partnered with JobTarget, an industry leader in job board development, to build a unique SBM employment marketplace with features that are different from generalist job boards in a number of ways, including: “This new online center is built with the latest technology in career development and will give our members the most effective job searching and recruiting capabilities that exist today,” said SBM President W. Anthony Jenkins. “It’s a valuable member benefit. We realize how difficult it can be to match quality employees with job opportunities—the new online career center will help address that problem.” The career center is free for job seekers. Employers will pay a fee to post jobs. For more information visit the online center. Economics of Law Practice in Michigan The Key Findings Report on the 2010 Economics of Law Practice in Michigan has just been released. This short, early version focuses exclusively on attorney income and billing rates—the two most requested pieces of information by attorneys. The full summary report will be out next month. Judicial Crossroads Task Force The Judicial Crossroads Task Force Report points toward a Michigan court system that looks much different from what lawyers and the public are used to. The task force, which consisted of equal numbers of judges and lawyers, made recommendations that include ways to streamline trial courts, harness technology, and fix fundamental problems before they grow worse. The Michigan Legal Milestones recognizes significant legal cases and personalities in Michigan’s history and uses bronze plaques, placed at featured sites, to relate the historical significance. A new milestone is dedicated each year. The Legal Milestone plaques are on display across the state.
