Subj:  STATEMENT CONCERNING PUNITIVE LETTER OF REPRIMAND 5800 CG

       DEC 03 2010

1.  I have received and fully understand the subject letter of reprimand.  The events, uncovered during the IG investigation into the Provost Marshalâs Office, while I was the MCAGCC Provost Marshal, which led to my relief and eventual NJP have without question provided valuable lessons learned.  The most important of which was that as an officer-in-charge you must inspect what you expect and not take for granted that your staff is always complying with your intent and all regulations.  I will use that lesson, along with others learned during the entire legal process, in my future leadership positions.

2.  As an officer and leader of Marines, it is critical to never act in a manner which would compromise your integrity, standing as an officer or the good order and discipline of oneâs unit.  Accordingly, I will continue to maintain the strict discipline, sense of duty, moral courage, self-assurance, and good judgment necessary to effectively lead Marines.  I will continue to foster a climate of cohesiveness and camaraderie and combat undisciplined behavior appropriately and swiftly upon my knowledge of same.  I will also continue to gain and give trust and confidence from and to my subordinates; establishing solidarity within the unit, delegating authority as appropriate and always taking responsibility for anything that happens on my watch.  As I have for the last nearly 17 years of service, and in particular the last 16 months while pending these legal matters, I will continue to be a productive officer; making significant contributions to and having positive impact on our Corps.

3. I am honored to be Marine Officer and embrace the responsibilities that are inherent to that privilege.  My love for and devotion to the Corps and our great country have not diminished in the slightest despite the turmoil of the legal matters leading up to this letter.  My drive to maintain the highest standards of personal and professional conduct and to uphold the commitments that come as part of our ethos, core values and leadership traits and principles, are as strong now as they ever were.  In short, I want to remain on active duty to continue to proudly and honorably serve our amazing country in our Corps until retirement.  In that light, it is important to note, as indicated in the specific events related to each charge, there were neither any integrity violations nor issues of moral turpitude or mal-intent and the events are benign with respect to misconduct.
