Gentlemen, Following up on my conversation earlier with Capt Hur: Rebecca Barker Abdullah is taking the NY and NJ bar exams on 22-24 Feb 11. I propose starting trial on 28 Feb 11 vice 24 Feb, in order to avoid any potential delay in the trial due to her exam and travel. I don't think the motions session on 22-23 Feb 11 should be affected. Please let me know if you oppose the change. Regarding the DNA expert, I contacted Dr. Nora Rudin, who is a consultant in the bay area. She said that her typical initial contract for a government case would be 10 hours, after which she would recommend whether to request additional funding if necessary. I can't speak for the convening authority, but that does not sound unreasonable to me as long as the request is in proper form.
