Attached is an agenda and reservation form for our upcoming conference at Shanty Creek. The 34th Annual Mid-Winter Ski Conference will be held February 19-21, 2011 (Saturday-Monday). Over the last few years, the conference began on Sunday; this year it will begin on Saturday. With President's Day, conference attendees should not miss any work by participating.
The long breaks built into the conference schedule allow plenty of time for winter activities like skiing, sledding, snowboarding, and sleigh rides. The line up of presenters is impressive. Tim Baughman will discuss high impact court decisions; Patrick Barone will instruct us on the new super drunk law; and Steve Fishman will teach us how to cross-examine the difficult police witness. If you have attended in the past, you know that this conference is fun and relaxing in addition to being informative and practical.
Please try to attend the 34th Annual Mid-Winter Ski Conference. The hotel has given us special rates, but you do not have to stay at the hotel to attend the conference. Bellaire and the surrounding areas offer other accommodations. If you do stay at the hotel, you do not have to sign up for a ski or non-ski package at the hotel, i.e. you can just get a room-only rate. If you cannot attend, I would ask that you disseminate the attached materials to whomever you can.
Thank you,
p.s. The registration fee (payable when you get there; no credit cards J) for the Annual Mid-Winter Conference is $15.00 for Criminal Law Section members and $35.00 for non-members. i.e. Go to the State Bar website, become a CLS member for $20.00, pay the $15.00 member conference fee and get the best of all worlds.
In CLS news the council voted to oppose proposed courtrules MCR 6.005 allowing defense attorneys the option of not filing a response to a prosecutor interlocutory appeal and MCR 6.425 requiring judges to submit, a form in addition to what is stated on the record, outlining the reasons for departing from the guidelines.
