Hi Ladies,
I have a request regarding the soon to be released book Military Fly Moms!! Will you consider providing some marketing assistance?? It is a relatively simple request..I promise J
The book is scheduled to be published in approximately 5 weeks—we are in the final interior manuscript design phase.
My publisher, Connie Reeves from Tannenbaum Publishing, and I are in the process of setting up Military Fly Moms book signing and marketing schedule for 2012. First on the book signing tour is the Women in Aviation (WAI) Conference http://www.wai.org/ in Dallas, Mar 8-11th.
I wrote to Dr Chabrian, (WAI president) and Sue Coon (Member Services & Merchandise Mgr) in early November 2011 to request that I be included at the WAI Authors table at the WAI convention with Military Fly Moms. They responded several weeks later with the following response:
Peggy and I have decided that since the book will not be published until mid- to late February, this would be cutting it too close to our conference March 8-10. Although the book sounds really nice we feel the price of the book might be too high for our members’ to purchase since most of our books we carry in our store are under $30.00 plus we now have the Author’s Corner full for Dallas, TX. We would still be happy to receive a copy of the book to review in one of our upcoming issues of Aviation for Women. We appreciate your interest in our Author’s Corner and wish you the very best with your new book!
The price of the book will be approximately $50 and WAI would receive 25-30% of the sale profits. We responded back to WAI immediately requesting they reconsider but we have yet received a response and it is going on three weeks. The WAI Authors Table is due to be announced sometime in early January.
I am asking for your help…2 Requests
1. Can you send an email to DR Chabrian and Sue Coon as soon as possible to request that Military Fly Moms is included at the WAI Authors Table during the March Convention? My hope they will receive dozens of requests/emails and will enthusiastically want to include the book at the WAI conference Authors Table. Below are several points that you may want to include in your email to Dr. Chabrian and Sue Coon. (Included at bottom of this email).
2. Can you also forward this email out to anyone (e.g. all of your aviation, WAI, WMA, WASP, etc networking friends and associates) to ask them to also send similar email requests?
I planned to have WAI be the first and one of the biggest venues of 2012 to publicize Military Fly Moms. We've received many wonderful endorsements, including from former astronaut and first woman space shuttle commander - Colonel Eileen Collins, Ret.; Lieutenant General Carol Mutter, Ret.; WMA President Claudia McKnight; Girls With Wings founder - Lynda Meeks; CAPT Rosemary Mariner, Ret.; Amy Goodpaster Strebe, author of Flying for Her Country: The American and Soviet Women Military Pilots of World War II; Carey Dunai Lohrenz, first female F-14A combat pilot; Admiral Timothy J. Keating, Ret.; Deanie Bishop Parrish, WASP; Susan Healy Feland, founder and president of Academy Women; and Bernice Bee Falk Haydu, WASP.
In addition, a portion of all profits of Military Fly Moms will be contributed to Girls With Wings, a nonprofit organization that will also be an exhibitor at WAI. I also will be a speaker at one of the panels at the convention and plan to offer the book before and after the panel.
Thanks so much for any assistance.
Best Regards,
Linda Maloney

Reasons for Military Fly Moms/Linda Maloney to be included in WAI Conference Authors Table
1. You will be attending the WAI convention.
2. You would like to meet Linda Maloney and other women from Military Fly Moms.
3. You would like Linda Maloney or other women in the book to autograph the book/stories.
4. The membership should be the driving force in what is for sale in the WAI store.
5. You would prefer to have the book available so that you can look it, regardless of the price.
6. You would like be the one to determine if the cost of the book is too high, not to have that decision made for you.
7. You would like to have the opportunity to know about the book and to pre-order it at the convention, even if it is not published by then.
8. You have always supported WAI's efforts to promote women in aviation. Military Fly Moms is a book that not only promotes women in aviation, but will inspire everyone in aviation—past aviators, present, and future. And isn't that the goal of WAI in the end? How can such a valuable product be kept away from its members?
9. You knew that Linda Maloney was going to be on a panel discussing the balance between the military and motherhood. You presumed that you would be able to buy the book at this panel.
10. You know that WAI is a nonprofit organization, and are pleased with WAI's and sister organizations' efforts to provide interesting and valuable panels.
11. You appreciate the selflessness of individual panel members, such as Linda Maloney, and other women profiled in the book, who are willing to take vacation days off from work, time from family and other commitments, and use their own financial resources to fly to the convention, stay in the hotel, and attend the convention.
12. Considering that there is no ability to pay an honorarium to panel speakers, or to reimburse such speakers for their expenses, it would seem to be an appropriate venue/opportunity for WAI panel members to sell and promote their own books.
13. Providing such panel members with the opportunity to sell their books to WAI members enhances the experience of convention attendees and provides additional funds to WAI through discounted sales or an agreed-upon percentage of the net sales.
14. There are 70 women whose stories are told in this book, from all services; hence, convention attendees from many walks of life, including each of the military services, are likely to be interested in this book.
15. There are numerous individuals who have recommended the book through quotations on the back cover and inside, and a number of them will also be present at the convention.
16. There is a ready-made market at WAI for Military Fly Moms, just through the women in the book and the recommenders alone.
17. The price of the book should not be the deciding factor in whether or not WAI members get to see the book.
18. A book that has intrinsic value for a large population of buyers, such as Military Fly Moms, should have priority over many other types of books, such as one person's memoir.
19. Because this is an expensive book, you would much rather be able to see it in person rather than envision it solely via a review in the WAI magazine.
20. You support the efforts of WAI members who compile and produce the histories of women in aviation and believe that these should be highlighted at these national conventions.
