Held in one of the most effective trade corridors between the East and the West, Eco Expo Asia is the ideal trade destination to introduce products and technology from around the world to China. Back by popular demand, the Electric Vehicle Zone will be featured again in the 2010 show. This area promotes zero emissions in the transportation sector, echoing the theme of the C40 Hong Kong Workshop. Exhibitors are able to showcase their latest electric vehicles, supplies and charging facilities to policy makers and urban planners from the Chinese mainland.
The Chinese mainland government plans to invest RMB 10 billion in electric vehicles by 2011, and aims to have 4 million hybrid and electric vehicles on the road by 2020. In support of this, the State Grid Corporation of China has released an investment plan to build 75 charging stations and 6,029 charging points in 27 cities by the end of this year. To stimulate consumer demand for these vehicles, the government will also offer a subsidy of around USD 7,000 for purchasing an electric vehicle. This makes China the largest electric vehicle market in the world. |

Locally, under the framework of the Hong Kong Guangdong Cooperation Agreement to transform the Pearl River Delta region into a "Quality Green Living Area", greater attention will be paid to electric vehicles in Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
In Hong Kong, the government introduced a waiver of first registration tax on electric vehicles until March 2014 in its budget for 2009/10. In response to government initiatives to promote electric vehicles, a local bus company will trial a zero-emission supercapacitor bus in Hong Kong in July 2010. In Shenzhen, 40 purely electric vehicle taxis were recently launched, making Shenzhen the first city in China to adopt electric vehicle taxis. This number will increase to 100 by the end of June 2010. |
