FYI on DNA expert...lack of progress. -----Original Message----- From: Norah Rudin [mailto:norah@forensicdna.com] Sent: Monday, February 07, 2011 18:38 To: Hur Capt Christian P Cc: Armstrong LCpl Ryan J Subject: Re: ICO US v Wacker- DNA expert Importance: High Capt Hur, That sounds encouraging. I will look forward to receiving the additional material ASAP. I understand your frustration with the delay, but unfortunately, I really need the electronic data before I can start the reanalysis. Once I receive that, I anticipate that the review should go fairly quickly. If LCpl Armstrong ONs the materials tomorrow, I should have then on Wed and would be able to get right to work, perhaps even completing the work by the end of the week. In any event, I would like to complete the review and confer with you before the end of the month. At this time it looks like I will be in 29 Palms the week of Feb 28, so it would be good if we could get a handle on your case before I leave. I have been on contact with the money people, so I am reassured on that front. LCpl Armstrong, Please go into the Wacker hard file in my black dresser and look for all materials related to DNA forensic examination, as well as CDROMs. Make copies of this material, please keep the originals. Please go to this sharedrive link and send Dr. Rudin the appropriate files too (try to avoid duplication and check each PDF to be thorough). But the first thing I need is the electronic data. USACIL typically provides two CDs. One contains PDFs of the lab notes and other documents. The other contains the DNA electronic data, or "raw data" that only they and I can read. I wonder if prosecution has it, but has not forwarded it because they can't read it and don't realize what it is. That is not an unusual situation. Typically, if they will just forward me the original CDs send to them by USACIL they will contain everything I need. They should not try to copy the data CD, as the DNA data can become corrupted by copying on an office computer. It is always amusing to receive data that has been copied as audio or video files, but it unfortunately precludes my ability to read it. I do realize that time is of the essence, but I do need the data before I can start. As soon as I receive it, I will prioritize reviewing the case. So I will need to receive that discovery before I can start the review. Presumably my discovery request has been tendered to USACIL, or other lab that did the testing, and the DNA data will be forthcoming soon.
