Award Honors Young Scholars Reflecting on the Bill of Rights
The Sherwin T. Wine Outstanding Essay Contest invited all Oakland County high school juniors and seniors to write an essay on how the Bill of Rights defines American identity.
Join us this Thursday when journalist Jack Lessenberry will present the awards and a talk entitled "What's America All About?"

Empowering Tomorrow's LGBT Advocates with the Ruth Ellis Center
In celebration of the launch of Out and Upfront: Youth Leadership and Advocacy, the ACLU of Michigan and the Ruth Ellis Center are happy to present LGBT author and activist Sassafras Lowrey.

Sassafras Lowrey is an internationally award winning author, activist and editor of the Kicked Out anthology, a collection of first-person stories from current and formerly homeless LGBT youth.
The Out and Upfront program is a new partnership between the ACLU of Michigan and the Ruth Ellis Center designed to educate and empower
homeless, runaway, and kicked out LGBT youth. Young people in the program will learn to become advocates for
anti-bullying and anti-discrimination policies in local government and
schools.
