New Communications Director Joins the American Arab Chamber of Commerce | Dearborn MI-- Khalil E. Hachem has joined the American Arab Chamber of Commerce in Dearborn as director of communications. He began his new job Sept. 27. Hachem, a former journalist, will serve as liaison between the chamber, the local and national media and the community, working to educate the public about the chamber and its activities. He will also supervise the chamber's web site, E-newsletter and connect with various groups to serve the chamber, its members and the business community.

The American Arab Chamber of Commerce is presenting the Dow Chemical company and Basha Diagnostics its prestigious Economic Bridge of the Year Award at it Annual Economic Bridges Banquet on Friday, Oct. 22 at the Henry hotel in Dearborn. Charles Kalil, Executive Vice President, will accept Dow's award and Dr. Yahya Basha, president and founder, will accept the award for Basha Diagnostics.

The chamber recognizes the importance of the 2010 election and the dilemmas our business community in these tough economic times, especially small businesses. The club highlights global issues of interest to the mid-Michigan business community through a luncheon speakers series.

Palestinian Business Delegation Visits the American Arab Chamber of Commerce
| A Palestinian delegation of 15 business professionals visited the American Arab Chamber of Commerce Monday to discuss networking opportunities between Palestinian and American business organizations. The group is visiting the United States as part of the U.S. Department of State's International Leadership programs, and the delegates included engineers, entrepreneurs, consultants and media professionals.

Ed Bagale Receives the 2010 Eleanor Josaitis Unsung Hero Award

Bagale won the award for his work launch the Rouge River Gateway Partnership, a nearly 20-year-old group of about 20 municipalities, corporations, government agencies and nonprofits with four key goals for the river: historic preservation, environmental restoration, increased recreational opportunities and economic development. The award is giving annually to people who work behind the scenes to build regional cooperation and understanding. Bagale is Vice Chancellor for Government Relations at the University of Michigan- Dearborn and serves on the American Arab Chamber of Commerce Board Directors. Hassan Jaber received the 2010 William Beckham Jr. Community Service Award for his work to help transform ACCESS from a storefront into one of the largest Arab-American non-profit human services organizations in the country. ACCESS provides various programs including: Health, social, legal and employment services and training. Jaber serves on the board of director of the American Arab Chamber of Commerce.

The American Arab Chamber of Commerce Hires a New Director of Communications
Khalil E. Hachem has joined the American Arab Chamber of Commerce in Dearborn as director of communications. He began his new job Sept. 27. The chamber is one of the nation's largest Arab-American business organizations, and it has continuously evolved with the needs of the growing Arab-American business community and the community at large. Hachem, a former journalist, will serve as liaison between the chamber, the local and national media and the community, working to educate the public about the chamber and its activities. He will also supervise the chamber's web site, E-newsletter and connect with various groups to serve the chamber, its members and the business community. "Khalil brings a unique and diverse background," said American Arab Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Fay Beydoun. "We're excited about him joining our team." Hachem worked as a journalist at the Ann Arbor News for 10 years, writing about the business community in Eastern Washtenaw County, municipal, county and state governments, higher education and community news. "The chamber has done wonderful things for the community," Hachem said. "I am fortunate to have the opportunity to spread the good news about all of the exciting projects the chamber is undertaken." The American Arab Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1992, works to build economic bridges locally and internationally. It provides business referrals, member promotion, networking events, educational seminars, information exchange through newsletters and other publications, group health insurance and a host of other benefits and services. The Chamber also serves as the voice of its members with lawmakers, governmental agencies and local entities. The American Arab Chamber of Commerce is holding its 18th Annual Building Bridges Banquet on Friday Oct. 22 at the Henry hotel at 300 Town Center Dr. in Dearborn. The banquet, which attracts about 1,200 people, starts at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by an exciting dinner program at 6:30 p.m. Since its inception in 1992, the American Arab Chamber of Commerce has become the largest Arab-American business organization in the United States and one of Michigan's largest business organizations. The Arab-American community in Michigan is one of the most affluent communities in the nation, and the American Arab Chamber strives to facilitate and stimulate the community's growth by building economic bridges, both locally and between the United States and the Arab World.
