Re: 3/1 Kilo Company Haditha CAR
Approved. No he should not have to take leave to prepare for his war crimes trial and yes his place of duty is where his attys are and you have full authority to so inform his CO/XO. If you need more authority tell him the next phone call he gets may be from the MARCENT CG because he'll be our next phone call.

I wanted to get in touch with her about my command and maybe notifying them that starting 23 Aug I'll be busy with trial prep. I've spoken to my command and they want a detailed list of times and places I'll be, which there isn't really anyway to predict when exactly you will need me, but maybe she can talk to my chain of command about it. Any thoughts on your end? Thanks, I'll see you soon,

The document is long and detailed, but each paragraph is begun with the last name of the person whose actions it describes. It's been a long time, but to the best of my memory, the events described are true and sufficient for the CAR. Many apologies from me to the Marines whose awards and "stacks" have been deficient due to events out of our control. I hope to make things right with this small effort.

In all seriousness, thanks for helping with something that did not even concern you beyond being a worthy and proud member of the Thundering Third. I think you deserve a CAR for the admin battle. Let me know if this doesn't pass muster for some reason. Thanks again.

Check out the attachment "kilo CAR history & comments", the comment by CIV Linda Brown. Adam, the writeups you gave me summarized the several different events that happened that day and the Marines involved in each of those events, but not what each Marine did as part of that event to specifically warrant a CAR.

> From what I understand, Mrs. Brown (2d MARDIV G-1 AWARDS) needs to have a paragraph on each individual on the matrix specifically outlining what that Marine did during that event to warrant a CAR. I can't do that because I just don't know. If you all can make some phone calls, fire off some emails, and re-construct justifications for these Marines' CARs, I'll be happy to fix it on the submission once you can get the info emailed to me. However, this has to become high-priority to all involved and needs to get knocked out as quickly as possible because this has been hanging out in 3/1's IAPS account for quite a while now. I'd like to get this off 3/1's plate in the next few days. If the juice is no longer worth the squeeze, please let me know and I will just remove it from IAPS altogether.
