The Ethics of Starting Your Own Firm

Ethics Credit Available!

This Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Many lawyers are starting their own firms, either because of personal choice or economic realities. But starting a new firm comes with a number of ethical pitfalls even the most seasoned attorney may not foresee. This program is intended to provide practical guidance on ethical issues encountered when starting a law firm, including when leaving a law firm to start a new practice.

Issues covered will include:

  • Establishing and operating a trust account and conflict check system
  • Working for others while jump-starting your practice
  • Developing clients -- and transferring them from a former firm
  • Procuring insurance
