Subject: this Sunday - great short improv classes

This Sunday, 8/14, there are some great 2.5 hour improv classes at Go Comedy in Ferndale.  I'm really interested in two of them:

Whole Body Listening from 11:00 - 1:30

Truth and Beauty from 2:00 - 4:00

Both seem dead on for what we do at TLC - listening skills and vulnerability about ourselves in our work.

Will any of you do it with me?  Only $25 per class.

This Week at Go!

Spontaneous Combustion
Motor City Improv Festival

Wednesday through Sunday Go Comedy! is hosting our first improv festival featuring troupes from around the country. For more info on the shows click here.

We are also offering some awesome workshops by some of the best improv instructors in the country.
Each workshop is $25. Space is limited.

Susan Messing - JOY JOY WORKSHOP - SATURDAY 11-1:30 at GO COMEDY!
Work getting stale and uninspired? Blaming your friends for your onstage misfortune?
Just need a touch up? This class is for the improviser who has fallen off the joy ride.
Quick, easy fixes that will have you inspired and making your friends inspired too.

Dan Izzo - JUST DO IT - SATURDAY 11-1:30 at GO U
This workshop focuses on quickly engaging scenes with energy, character and focus.
Exercises will help you create an active engaged mindset which allows you to work with,
not against, your scene partner and their ideas while retaining your power in the scene.
Rationalization, justification, the artificial creation of conflict and blatant efforts at
cleverness are replaced with character, fun, energy, emotional power and focus.
Take this workshop and you'll learn to bring mad energy and commitment into your scenes
and have them grow organically and dynamically.

Jill Bernard - THE FIREBALL THEORY - SATURDAY 2-4:30 at GO COMEDY!
This workshop presents Jill Bernard's Fireball Theory and offers exercises to help you
improvise faster and harder than you can judge yourself. You will learn to metaphorically
hit the scene running and outrun the explosion of self-loathing and doubt like an action movie
hero outruns a fireball thus defying the laws of physics.
Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.

Cook County Social Club - SCENIC GAME PLAY - SATURDAY 2-4:30 at GoU!
Cook Co Social Club teach a workshop on scenic game play: how to find comedic patterns
and heighten them effectively.
Mark Raterman and Greg Hess of Cook County Social Club will teach this workshop.
This workshop will focus on the two facets that created the CCSC classes:
scene work and game play within scenes
Game play was the basis for their signature style and, later,
the Cook Co Master Class and Workshops taught at iO Chicago and throughout the country.

Susan Messing - CHARACTER WORKSHOP - SUNDAY 11-1:30 at GO COMEDY!
Get some character, so you don't stand there as yourself
and argue until we're all bored to tears.
Lots of specificity to pull out the comedy instead of hoping you'll be funny
and then wanting to kill yourself. Your work will become more effortless,
whether in long or short form.

Jonathan Pitts - WHOLE BODY LISTENING - SUNDAY 11-1:30 at GO U
Listen up! One major skill all schools of improvisation have in common is the need for listening.
True listening is a whole body activity requiring constant engagement in the improviser's body,
brain, heart, and spirit of play. This workshop uses two-person scenes to help players
listen to both each other and themselves. You should hear what you're missing.

Jill Bernard - TRUTH & BEAUTY - SUNDAY 2-4:30 at GO COMEDY!
In this workshop, Jill Bernard will take you through a series of exercises that
inject your work with a little bit of truth and beauty. Having the ability to
create improv that is honest and vulnerable adds another layer to your work,
a little bit of cake underneath your frosting to take your work from
light entertainment to something with resonance.
Please wear closed toe shoes to this workshop.
