Alyce, My recommendation was that you collect more information using a professional investigator before you approach an attorney who could represent you in bringing the wrongful death action against your son-in-law. That is not a type of work that we do at our firm, so there is no need to keep us informed. We simply won't be able to assist you with this. The unusual circumstances that you mentioned are cause for further investigation. Right now, it seems you may not have sufficient evidence to move forward with such a claim. But again, we are not experienced in these matters and would not be able to advise you about how or whether to proceed beyond collecting more information. Nevertheless, I was so sorry to hear about the loss of your daughter. I wish you the best of luck with your efforts to learn the truth about what happened to her. You surely deserve to know. What occurs after that? Do I maintain contact with you and keep you updated on the progress? Is your office also able to assist us with the custody issue--jurisdictional question or does it matter? When, at what point, do we establish working with your office? I feel confident now that you have pointed us with directions, and possible actions to consider. Thank you, Sir. I'll discuss with my husband. The most important action would be the custody of our grandchildren. They are half Navajo (Native American) and old granddaughter is properly registered and enrolled with a census number with the Navajo tribe, however, our younger granddaughter has not been registered, yet. We can enroll her once we have custody. I'm not too familiar with the "Indian Child Welfare Act," but I believe our granddaughters have a right to be brought up with and in their culture, whereas, MSG Angulo is not a member of any tribe. I'll certainly look into the private investigator matter also--thanks for bringing that up. Again, my husband can provide you with a copy of the CID report. Let us know. Among some possibilities are: prosecution of your son-in-law, money damages from him and/or custody of your grandchildren. Which of these are you seeking, or are you seeking all of them? If all of them, which one is most important? The course of action I'd recommend first is to hire a private investigator to review the evidence available. You should look for someone in the Columbus, GA, area. The results of the investigation may be sufficient to convince a prosecutor to prosecute or an attorney to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
