Positive Signs for Car Loans in 2011 Consumers who want to take out auto loans are likely to succeed in 2011, continuing a trend that took off slowly in the summer, Jeff Schuster, executive director of forecasting at J.D. Power and Associates in Troy, told the Free Press this week. The trend would favor younger buyers, who were shut out of the new car market during the recession because of their lack of credit history and lack of savings for a bigger down payment. U.S. car and light truck sales are expected to reach 12.8 million in 2011. Last year, Americans bought about 11.6 million vehicles. Ford Plans to Hire 7,000 Workers
The Ford Motor Company announced Monday that it plans to hire more than 7,000 workers in the next two years. The announcement includes adding 4,000 hourly jobs and 750 salaried positions this year and at least 2,500 hourly jobs in 2012.
Ford executives did not reveal where the jobs would be located. The company had already announced that it would hire 1,800 people this year at a plant in Louisville, Ky., and included those jobs in Monday's figure.
