The elections this November aren't just about new state and local candidates or even the tea party. Join us at two compelling events as we examine the civil rights implications of this fall's election.

Michigan Supreme Court LGBT Forum in Detroit

This November, two Michigan Supreme Court justices will be up for reelection, giving voters a unique opportunity to send a strong message about LGBT equality in the courts. You can make an informed decision on election day by joining the ACLU on Thursday, September 30 as we examine equality, fairness and the courts.

LGBT Rights in the Courts
Thursday, September 30 at 6:00 p.m.
2966 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI

This informative presentation on the role of the courts in securing equality for Michigan’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community features Jay Kaplan, Staff Attorney for the ACLU of Michigan LGBT Project.

Jay will discuss the importance of this November’s court elections, provide an overview of past Michigan Supreme Court decisions affecting LGBT families, and answer questions to help inform you about the state of LGBT equality in Michigan.

Please RSVP for this great evening.

Note: The ACLU of Michigan does not endorse or oppose candidates for elective or appointed office.

Town Hall in Ypsilanti: LGBT Rights Are Human Rights

• Did you know that in Michigan it's legal for an employer to fire you because of your sexual orientation?
• Did you know that you can be denied housing because of your gender identity?

We need your help in telling state legislators that LGBT rights are human rights. Please join the ACLU of Michigan in a discussion featuring State Representative Rebekah Warren on the legislative challenges of passing civil rights laws that protect all Michigan residents and how we can achieve success.

Monday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m.
Corner Brewery
720 Norris St. in Ypsilanti

The ACLU of Michigan has long advocated for legislation that protects all residents against discrimination including that based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Be sure to join us for this important conversation as we discuss amending Michigan's civil rights laws to include justice, liberty and fairness for all. RSVP online.

This event is sponsored by Unity Michigan
